How to Download and Install DriverLINX from this Web Site

DriverLINX software is normally distributed on a CD and included with each product when sold. For the convenience of customers who have lost their original CD or need a newer version since the time of their board purchase, Keithley also provides driver files on this web site. To reduce the download time, the files have been split into three sections and compressed:

DOCS

The latest version of all DriverLINX software documentation. However, the individual software documents for DriverLINX are also available individually in the Document Center portion of this web site. Note that this covers only software issues; a separate hardware User's Guide is also available in the Document Center.

APIS

The latest version of DriverLINX Application Program Interfaces, which provide the ability to use the driver from Visual Basic, C++ and Delphi languages, including example programs. Customized example programs are also available as downloads for specific model numbers.

(Driver)

The latest released version of the DriverLINX driver for each of seventeen different product families: select the one of interest to you. Note that if fixes have been made since the last full release, you may also need a patch file, which may be available as a software update on this site. NOTE: if the driver you select requires a serial number for installation, then a SERIALNUMBER.TXT file is contained in the download.

Each of the sections and drivers named above is packaged as a separate self-extracting ZIP file. The ZIP file sizes are approximately:

DOCS 13.5MB

APIS 4 MB

(Driver) 6 - 14 MB, depending on the model

To download: select the file and specify a location for storage when prompted.

To install:

(1) Run the downloaded ZIP exe file. Unless you specify otherwise, its contents will be expanded into a temporary directory named "C:\DL_temp".

(2) Recommended: Uninstall the previous version of the DOCS/APIS/(Driver), if applicable. Take care to preserve any edited files you wish to reuse.

(3) Run the "setup.exe" program from the expanded content in "C:\DL_temp". This will install the files into the DriverLINX default directory or a directory you specify. If necessary, a driver update file is also included. This will be a second executable file in the expanded content. Typical file name would be DAS1800-850A01.0.0.5.exe indicating the board family, CD version, and update level. Run this driver update program. Use the SERIALNUMBER.TXT file to obtain a serial number if the installer prompts for one. Reboot.

(4) Launch the Configuration Wizard. The driver has a wizard to help you configure your hardware; when not using the CD media, a manual launch of the Wizard is required. After installing the driver and rebooting (if required), run the batch file in the DriverLINX help subfolder to launch this wizard. For example, c:\drvlinx4\help\kmb1800.bat.

(5) Following installation, the directory "C:\DL_temp" may be manually deleted. The ZIP exe file itself may also be deleted, unless you wish to save it as a backup for possible future use. If you do nothing, the temporary files will cause no problems except for consuming space on your disk.

Special note for users of Windows 95: IF

- your PC has Windows 95 version B or earlier (4.00.950, 4.00.950A, 4.00.950B), AND

- you have not upgraded to Microsoft Internet Explorer v 4.01 or higher,

AND

- you have not previously installed DriverLINX from the product CD,

THEN

you will also need to install COM components from file DCOM95.exe. Download and run that file also. (It is an executable file and does not need to be unzipped before use.)

(If you have Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP, the necessary DCOM files are already part of your operating system. For Win95 systems, the CD automatically checks for installs these files when needed, but since this now affects relatively few users it is NOT included in these download files to reduce their size.)
